WHAT WE DO

Family & child protection

Provide child-friendly legal aid and protection for children and families, including in situations of violence, family breakdown, exploitation and cross-border movement.

Key programme activities

Legal counselling and representation in cases related to:

  • custody, guardianship and parental responsibility;
  • protection orders and measures in cases of domestic or gender-based violence;
  • maintenance, child support and contact arrangements;
  • access to alternative care, family reunification and child-friendly procedures.
  • Support for children in situations of high vulnerability, including:
  • children at risk of trafficking, smuggling or exploitation;
  • unaccompanied or separated children at borders or in reception centres;
  • children of parents with unclear legal status or at risk of statelessness.
  • Close coordination with child protection units, social services, schools, health providers, border and reception authorities to ensure integrated case management and timely referrals.
  • Contributions to the development and implementation of child protection and child justice standards within national strategies and action plans.
